We present a case of haematoma formation of the tongue after placement of dental implants. The swelling was success- fully treated with medicinal leeches, also known as Hirudo therapy. This report comprises a brief overview of the possible mechanism behind Hirudo therapy. Although its role in resolution of the swelling remains unclear, Hirudo therapy is gaining acceptance as treatment of venous congestion and haematoma.
